Interpreting the CFA Result 2024

The CFA Institute sends the CFA exam results to the candidates via email, indicating whether they passed or failed. Read below to better understand the CFA result and score components:

  • Minimum Passing Score (MPS): A thin grey line represents the MPS, which is the benchmark that candidates must surpass to pass the exam.

  • Bold Grey Line: This thicker grey line reflects the candidate's score. If this line is above the MPS, the candidate has passed. If it’s below the MPS, the candidate did not pass.

  • Confidence Interval: A light blue box surrounding the candidate's score represents a 90% confidence interval, indicating the range within which their true score likely falls. High-performing candidates often have this box and grey line above the MPS.

  • Purple Dashed Line: This line shows the 90th percentile score, meaning 10% of exam takers scored higher than this mark.

  • Black Dotted Line: This line indicates the 10th percentile, meaning 10% of exam takers scored below this mark.

These visual indicators help candidates understand where they stand in relation to their peers and the passing criteria.
