The exams will only be conducted for a few subjects. The detailed SOPs will be prepared in the next week, said state education minister Ranoj Pegu.

Assam has decided to go ahead and conduct the Assam HSLC, HS exams this year between August 1 and 15. The decision comes after the Centre and many state board have decided to cancel the 10th, 12th board exams.

It was finalized to conduct the exams after the government held a meeting with a number of stakeholders inducing CBSE, AHSEC and SEBA, All Assam Students Union, Asam Sahitya Sabha, Bodo Sahitya Sabha, All Assam Students Union, All Bodo Students Union, Mising Autonomous Council, among others.

Assam Education Minister Ranoj Pegu said, “The consensus is that exams should be held. Since Covid cases are declining in the state, we feel it would be safe to hold the exams. We will not be able to conduct the exams next month itself, so we will tentatively hold it in August.”

The minister added that exams would be held only for a few subjects. “The detailed SOPs etc will be prepared in the next week,” he said.

A statement from an official from Education Department mentioned that the exams will be held with utmost safety and all protocols will be followed. “The examination process will be as basic as possible, we will assess students only in core subjects, as they have already been through a lot of stress. The evaluation will also be student-friendly,” he said.

“All students above 18, all teachers, invigilators and anyone involved in the examination process will be vaccinated. We are planning to have examination centres closer to the students’ homes,” he said.
