CBSE Class 12 Exams 2021 to Take Place; State boards to decide on their own exams

MoE has decided to conduct the Class 12th exams 2021. The format and dates to hold the exams is not yet finalized.

The Ministry of Education (MoE) announced that the Class 12th board exams 2021 will take place. However, the Class 12th board exams will likely be held in a short format type and state boards may take a call on their own whether to conduct the board exams or not.

After the meeting of Union and state ministers, government sources told that the centre has finalized to conduct the CBSE 12th exams, however, the dates and the format of exam are yet to be decided. Union Education Minister Ramesh Pokhriyal will announce the CBSE 12th exam dates 2021 on June 1.

State boards have been left to take a call on whether to conduct the board exams based on the local conditions.

Pokhriyal held a high-level meeting today with all the states and UT education ministers, secretaries, and chairpersons of state examination boards as well as other stakeholders to discuss the conduct of Class 12th board examinations and entrance examinations for professional courses amidst the pandemic. CBSE, CISCE and many state boards have postponed Class 12 examinations due to rising COVID19 cases. Entrance examinations like JEE and NEET have also been deferred.

The Education Ministry and the CBSE are ‘exploring options’ regarding the conduct of examinations, keeping in view the safety of students and teachers.

“The Department of Higher Education is also deciding upon the finalization of the dates of examinations for institutions of higher learning. COVID pandemic has affected various areas including the Education sector, particularly the board exams and entrance exams,” read Pokhriyal’s letter addressed to ministers.
