According to this reform, students of classes 6, 7, and 8 will be able to study one Skill Module of 12 hours duration for a single academic session.

In line with the New Education Policy 2019, The Central Board of Secondary Education introduced three new Skill Courses for students in class 11. According to the New Education Policy 2019 which states that there should be ‘no hard separation’ between curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular or academic and vocational/physical education and art, the board also suggested that schools can offer students the choice to opt for a vocational subject of a short duration module (12-hour) in middle school.

According to this reform, students of classes 6, 7, and 8 will be able to study one Skill Module of 12 hours duration for a single academic session. The choice to opt Skill Module either at class 6 or class 7 or class 8 is free for Schools and students both.

CBSE also released a list of skill-based subjects that schools may offer to middle school students from the academic session 2020-21.

In the official press release regarding the introduction of skill-based subjects in Middle school, CBSE stated that it will provide necessary assistance, guidance and training to the teachers for the successful implementation of skill subjects. While these courses are based on 12 hours module, its examination will be held for 50 marks out of which 15 marks will cover the theory component and 35 marks will cover practical components. Board also made this clear that schools do not need to pay any fee to the CBSE for starting Skill courses in middle school.
