Kerala government is mulling over reopening schools in the state on June 1 onwards if the pandemic novel coronavirus spread is under control. According to the reports, the schools will be following all the advisory and precautionary laid down by the Ministry of Health. Students may have to wear masks in the coming academic session in the state. The government has also launched an online teacher training program for the teachers that will help them to conduct online classes for students.
Meanwhile, the Kerala Department of Education also launched an online training programme for teachers. In case the situation goes out of control by the end of the month, the classes will be conducted online by the department to impart education. The students are also directed to attended classes online.
The guidelines set by the Kerala health minister K.K. Shailaja upon re-opening of the school for the next academic session states, "Covering of nose and mouth will not go on endlessly. But as a precaution against the coronavirus infection, children may need to wear masks in the next academic session.β
As for now, the nationwide lockdown is imposed by the Ministry of Home Affairs until May 17. The state government decided to keep the schools shut until the last week of May on account of summer vacations. Till now, Kerala has 513 confirmed cases out of which 489 got recovered and 4 lost their lives. There are a total of 20 coronavirus active cases in the state.
Also, the Kerala Board officials are planning to hold the pending Kerala SSLC and Kerala 12th Board examination once the lockdown is lifted. The report also claimed that the Kerala Board exams will resume from May 21 and will continue until May 29, 2020.
