Maharashtra common timetable was released for Class 1 to 9. The directive stated that final exams for students would be held between April 8 and April 25, 2025, ensuring uniformity in the school calendar.

On March 6, 2025, the Maharashtra State Education Department announced a significant policy change: releasing a uniform exam time table for all state board schools across Maharashtra. Maharashtra common time table was released for Class 1 to 9. The directive stated that final exams for students would be held between April 8 and April 25, 2025, ensuring uniformity in the school calendar.

Additionally, the department declared that the new academic year would begin in April 2025 instead of the usual June start.

Strong Feedback against Maharashtra Common Time Table

However, the decision was met with strong reactions from various groups, including Yuva Sena (the youth wing of Shiv Sena), school administrators, educators, and parents. Their concerns included:

  • Practicality Issues: Schools in different regions of Maharashtra follow varied academic structures, making a one-size-fits-all approach difficult to implement.
  • Weather Concerns: The extreme summer heat in April raised concerns about students' health and well-being. Parents and teachers feared that children sitting for exams in rising temperatures would face additional stress.

Shift in Direction

Acknowledging these concerns, the Education Department engaged in discussions with stakeholders, including Yuva Sena representatives.

Following these deliberations, Education Commissioner Sachindra Pratap Singh directed officials to reconsider the decision. As a result, the implementation of the uniform exam schedule and academic year start date is now under review.

What does this Mean for Schools and Students?

As of now, the Education Department has not released new guidelines regarding the revised schedule. It remains unclear whether the previous directives will be reinstated or modified.

However, it is expected that fresh instructions will be issued soon, bringing more clarity to students, parents, and educators across Maharashtra. Until then, schools and families await further updates from the government.
