The new common time-table by the Maharashtra government for Class 1 to 9 is designed to address these issues, ensuring that the final exams are held at the same time for all schools, thus providing an equitable study window for every student.

In a groundbreaking move, the Maharashtra government has introduced a common time-table for the annual exams for Classes 1 to 9 for the academic session 2024-25. The decision aims to standardize the examination schedule across the state, ensuring that all students, regardless of their school or region, have a uniform academic timeline. This initiative is expected to enhance the academic experience for students by optimizing the available study time.

Why New Time-Table is Crucial for Students?

The Education Department's decision comes after recognizing the varied exam schedules across schools in Maharashtra. Under the previous system, schools conducted annual exams towards the end of March or early April, which led to inconsistent study hours and attendance issues. When exams end in early April, students often face low attendance in the following weeks despite the school remaining open. Conversely, if exams were held too early, students had insufficient time to prepare adequately for their tests.

The new common time-table is designed to address these issues, ensuring that the final exams are held at the same time for all schools, thus providing an equitable study window for every student.

Maharashtra Annual Exams 2024-25 Schedule: Key Dates You Need to Know

Here is the detailed schedule for the annual exams, including the Comprehensive Test-2 (PAT) and Periodic Assessment Test (PAT) for Classes 1 to 9 across Maharashtra. Schools must adhere to these dates for a smooth and synchronized academic year.

Key Exam Dates for Classes 1-9

  • April 9, 2025: First Language (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Classes 1-8 & First Language (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Class 9.
  • April 11, 2025: English (Third Language) (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Classes 1-8 & First Language (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Class 9.
  • April 19, 2025: Mathematics (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Classes 1-8 & First Language (Annual Exam) for Class 9.
  • April 21, 2025: First Language (Annual Exam) for Classes 1-8 & Mathematics (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Class 9.
  • April 22, 2025: Second Language/Combined Language (Annual Exam) for Classes 1-8.
  • April 23, 2025: English (Third Language) (Annual Exam) for Classes 1-8.
  • April 24, 2025: Mathematics (Annual Exam) for Classes 1-8 & Social Science (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Class 9.
  • April 25, 2025: Social Science (Comprehensive Test-2) (PAT-3) for Classes 1-8 & Social Science (Annual Exam) for Class 9.

Examination Instructions and Guidelines for Schools

As part of this new schedule, the Maharashtra government has issued specific instructions regarding the administration of exams, including dress codes, preparation of test papers, and evaluation methods:

  1. Dress Code and Conduct: Schools must ensure that students follow the prescribed dress code for exams. For subjects like language and mathematics, the Maharashtra State Council of Educational Research and Training (MSCERT), Pune, will provide test papers for government and aided schools. Other private schools must prepare their own.
  2. Preparation of Question Papers: Schools must prepare question papers for subjects like arts, crafts, physical education, etc., at the school level. Importantly, for Classes 5 and 8, annual exams must be conducted using question papers prepared at the school level; the PAT papers cannot be used.
  3. Conducting Exams: Schools can organize exams at their preferred time slots (morning or afternoon), but the subjects must be administered as per the official schedule. Practical exams should be held on the same day or the following day, depending on availability.
  4. Make-Up Exams: Students who miss the exam should be given the opportunity to take it as soon as they return to school, ensuring fair chances for all.
  5. Summer Vacation: All schools will begin summer vacation on May 2, 2025, marking the conclusion of the academic year.

Why the Common Time-Table Will Benefit Maharashtra’s Education System

This state-wide uniform schedule is expected to provide numerous benefits for students, teachers, and parents:

  • Better Study Time Management: By standardizing exam dates, students will have more structured study time across the board, improving their preparation and performance.
  • Reduced Stress: With a clear timetable, students can better manage their study schedules, which could lead to less stress and better overall results.
  • Improved Attendance: Schools will no longer face issues with irregular attendance post-exams, as all students will follow the same exam calendar.

The implementation of this new common time-table is a significant shift in Maharashtra's education policy, aimed at creating a more structured and predictable academic environment for students. Schools, especially those with large student bodies, will be required to ensure that the exams are conducted efficiently within the given framework.

The responsibility for the timely execution of the examination process lies with school principals, who must coordinate with local education officers to address any local challenges or circumstances that may require adjustments. Schools must ensure that no student is left behind due to unforeseen absences, and all exams are completed within the prescribed time.

As the Maharashtra State Education Department looks forward to this major change in the academic year 2024-25, it is hoped that the new exam schedule will contribute significantly to an enhanced learning experience for students across the state.

Study Time Management - First Government should learn. Stress - Yes, that's now on both Parents and Students. Very Bad Education Management. At the last month they remember to conduct exam. No proper plan from Education management.
