Bombay High Court has questioned the Maharashtra government over its decision to cancel Maharashtra SSC Exam 2021. A bench of Justice has directed the Maharashtra government to explain why it decided to cancel Mah Class 10 exams 2021. The High Court stated that the Maharashtra state government was making a mockery of the education system.
The hearing is based on the Public Interest Litigation filed by Dhananjay Kulkarni, challenging the state government's decision to cancel Maharashtra SSC Exam 2021. The State government representative PB Kakade stated that the board is yet to advise a formula to evaluate class 10 students.
The state will now also have to explain how they will ensure that the marks allotted at the school level are comparable. The HC bench further added that the evaluation standards and mode of conduct of exams vary from one school to another.
The court questioned the decision of the state to promote the students without exams. The court further added that being the last year of schooling is an important year, and hence Maharashtra SSC Exam 2021 is also important.
The judges of Bombay HC noted that despite the second wave of COVID-19 having hit around early April 2021, the state failed to take the decision. The state government announced the cancellation of the Maharashtra Board SSC exams 2021 as late as May 12, 2021. The bench further added that the announcement was made without proper planning as the board is yet to provide the evaluation criteria.
The Bombay HC has directed the state government to file an affidavit explaining why it should not set aside the decision on Maharashtra SSC Exam 2021. Also, explain why the Maharashtra SSC Exam 2021 was cancelled and how students will get evaluated.
