Schools have been closed in Uttarakhand, Uttar Pradesh, and Bihar due to extreme monsoon weather and flash floods, but there are no reports of exam postponement between August 8 and 16. Floods across northern India has led to school closures in different states, affecting academic schedules
In Uttarakhand's Uttarkashi saw cloudburst on August 5 leading to flash floods killing at least four people and leaving more than 100 missing. Local administration ordered closure of all schools and Anganwadi centres in Uttarkashi, Pauri Garhwal, Chamoli, and Almora districts. Schools have been closed due to red alert warnings from IMD, as more rains are expected till August 10.
Meanwhile, in Dehradun, an orange alert for heavy rain led to one day school closure on August 4 as a precaution.
In Uttar Pradesh, Varanasi saw severe flooding as Ganga river surges, prompting district administration to shut all schools up to Class 12 on August 5 and 6. Boat services on Ganga were suspended and residents faced knee deep waterlogged streets. Similarly school were closed in Kanpur on August 5, ahead of forecasts of heavy rains.
In Bhojpur district of Bihar flooding led to closure of 71 flood hit schools between August 5 and 9, affecting over 70 schools in Shahpur, Barhara, and Koilwar blocks. Local teachers have been asked to report to nearby schools to maintain learning continuity.
Although major exam or counselling scheduled between August 8 and 16 like that of CUET-UG and CUET-PG counselling have not been stopped or postponed. Students and parents in above mentioned districts are advised to remain alert for district level exam disruptions or rescheduling.
