The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Jammu has launched a new Management Development Programme (MDP) titled “Fundamentals of Generative AI for Leaders.” Inaugurated on June 18 at the Canal Road Campus, the programme is designed to help business leaders understand and harness the potential of generative AI technologies.

AI for Non-Technical Leaders: Making Innovation Accessible

This course is tailored for mid-to-senior level professionals across sectors like finance, marketing, logistics, and government. No technical background is required. The programme introduces core concepts behind generative AI, including how large language models (LLMs) like ChatGPT and Gemini work. It includes use-case demonstrations, group exercises, and interactive sessions aimed at helping participants apply AI tools strategically within their organisations.

Professor Jabir Ali, Dean of Academics at IIM Jammu, emphasized the importance of responsible AI use. The programme covers critical areas such as AI ethics, data privacy, intellectual property, regulatory compliance, and the societal impact of AI. The goal is to ensure that leaders not only adopt AI but also understand its broader implications.

Industry Collaborations and Real-World Insights

The MDP is being conducted by the IIM Jammu faculty in collaboration with industry experts. Guest speakers include data scientists from Indian tech companies and government think tanks, offering both academic insights and real-world perspectives.

Professor BS Sahay, Director of IIM Jammu, said, “We want our leaders to not just adapt to change but to drive it. Generative AI is a disruptive force, and those who understand it will shape the future of their organisations.”

Growing Demand for Generative AI Education in India

This programme comes at a time when Indian businesses are rapidly integrating generative AI into various functions, from automating content creation to improving customer service and operational efficiency. IIM Jammu plans to expand its AI-focused education offerings in the coming months, including short-term bootcamps and certificate programmes. The Generative AI MDP is expected to become a regular offering due to strong interest.
