Research Scholars Forum (BUPGRSF) was staging a protest against Principal District and Sessions, Judge Mallikarjuna Gowda, on Monday morning over the alleged removal of Dr B R Ambedkar’s portrait from the dais during the Republic Day celebrations in Raichur. Meanwhile, Akhil Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) activists reportedly came to the spot where BUPGRSF members were protesting and started agitating over the ‘pathetic’ condition of the university hostels and the ‘delay’ in the distribution of grade cards to former students. Eyewitnesses said that the police had to intervene and resort to the use of force after a scuffle started between the members of the two groups.

Bhuvan Gowda, Regional Secretary, ABVP, Bengaluru said, “ It’s been three years since the marks cards of some of the courses have been issued, and the hostels located at the Jnanabharathi campus do not have basic infrastructure. Instead of considering such demands, the Vice-Chancellor instigated the police to lathi-charge the protesting students.”
While speaking to the media, BJP national general secretary C T Ravi condemned the attack on students and asked the home minister to order an inquiry.

“I suspect the involvement of some miscreants within the University with regard to the lathi charge incident. I urge the home minister to conduct an inquiry and initiate action against the police personnel involved,” the Minister said.

Meanwhile. NSUI members staged a protest at the Bangalore University campus demanding the Vice-Chancellor to ban ABVP from the campus.
