Allahabad University Fee Hike Protest: A group of students protesting against Allahabad University's decision to hike fees gheraoed the dean of students' welfare and said they will launch a bigger agitation from Monday if the increase is not rolled back.
Ajay Yadav Samrat, who is leading the agitation, said that "talks with university management with the intervention of the district administration did not yield any results." He said, "the university administration was not taking any decision in students' favour and they will continue their agitation until the massive 300 per cent fee hike is rolled back."
Last month, Allahabad University announced that it has decided to hold talks with the protesting students with certain conditions. Allahabad University Vice-Chancellor Sangita Srivastava has also formed a high-level committee of teachers and district administrative officers and has invited the students to the North Hall of the varsity to hold talks.Â
The Allahabad University has said that "it has also mentioned the names of the students who are not currently studying in the varsity in the list presented by the students for talks. However, after waiting for two hours, the members decided to resume talks on September 29 with a condition that the talks will not include former members of the student union, suspended students, students of other colleges or alumni."
The fees of the university was INR 975 per year for undergraduate courses but it was hiked by over 300 per cent to INR 4,151 per year against which students are protesting for the past 36 days.
