Anna University Results 2020: Anna University declared results of all semesters except the final semester on Saturday night, i.e. February 13. According to the official reports, all 2.3 lakh students who registered for April/May 2020 semester exams from affiliated engineering colleges cleared them. The varsity processed the result grades based on the internal assessment (70% weightage) and previous semester exams (30% weightage) following the cancellation of exams. A source from the Anna University said, “The weightage given to the internal assessment tests helped the students clear the exams.”

Reports also suggest that the varsity sourced the previous semester marks of the students from its own database before processing the results. However, Anna University withheld the results of many engineering colleges due to nonpayment of the exam fee to the university. In most colleges, only 40% to 50% of students paid the exam fees. After lockdown, colleges could not collect exam fees due to the prevailing pandemic situation.

A principal from an engineering college said, “The University should be generous towards the students and colleges during the pandemic and release the results.” Meanwhile, a top executive of a private engineering college also urged the university to reduce the exam fee following the cancellation of the exams. However, while stating that the cost was more or less the same as the university spent money on preparing question papers, printing question papers and answer sheets, an official added, “The University has spent money on preparation to conduct the exams when the colleges were closed. Most of the colleges have collected fees from the students but are hesitant to pay the university. The state government itself gave permission to all universities to collect exam fees for the April/May semester.”
