Panjab University  (PU) has announced that it has decided to extend the closure of its teaching departments and libraries till June 9, in view of the pandemic situation.

The office of the dean students welfare (DSW) in a notice stated that the decision had been taken in view of the orders of the Chandigarh administration. “To comply with the orders of the Chandigarh administration, teaching departments and libraries of PU will remain closed till June 9. It has already been advised that the hostel residents should go back to their families for their safety and health,” reads the notice issued.

The varsity has also advised hostel residents not to come back until the PU authorities issue a notice in this regard. PU last month had closed all physical services including libraries and labs on campus in view of the recent surge in the number of Covid-19 cases.

Owing to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic and interrupted academic activities, PU had earlier announced that it has decided to conduct the practical exams of even semesters of undergraduate and postgraduate courses online from June 15.

After the practical exams, the semester examinations are scheduled to start on June 28 and are also most likely to be held in online mode again this year.

Communication regarding this has been sent to all chairpersons of university teaching departments and principals of affiliated colleges.

“The university authorities have allowed conducting the viva-voce/ presentation of the candidates of UG, PG, vocational, diploma courses from June 15 to 26 through online mode,” stated the communication issued by the office of the controller of examinations, PU.
