DU Exams: Delhi High Court has refused to allow a detained law student from Delhi University to appear for the exams. The Delhi HC after hearing the plea has decided not to allow the student to appear for his semester exams.

The matter was heard by a single judge bench comprising of Justice Sanjeev Narula. Upon hearing the plea, the judge stated that the student will not be allowed to appear for the exam due to his low attendance.

The petition was raised by the student's father, who was later questioned by the High Court as to why his son has extremely low attendance. "The classes are where you get trained. Have you questioned your son why is he not attending classes? Why are you standing up for him?... Nobody is questioning his intelligence. As a father you are hurt that he is losing six months but have you questioned him? He is attending 50 per cent of classes," stated Delhi HC.

The student, 24, has raised the petition claiming that his low attendance was due to him fracturing his right hand. As per the student, he was ordered to stay on bed rest which resulted in 47 percent of attendance.

He challenged the detention order issued by Delhi University on several grounds, one of the reasons being that DU did not provide the reasons for his detention.

Delhi HC also stated that even if the period for which the petitioner was allegedly advised to take bed rest, the student is still required to attain 70 percent of attendance.

Counsel appearing for Delhi University also stated that as per the rules, every student has to secure at least 70 per cent of attendance in classes. The counsel further stated that if the student is given the benefit for his 'bed,' his attendance would still be at 59 percent.
