Delhi University’s Executive Committee (EC) has approved conducting admissions based on entrance examination from the academic year 2022.

Delhi University’s Executive Committee (EC) has approved conducting admissions based on entrance examination from the academic year 2022.

After reaching 100% cut-offs for more than 11 courses this year, Delhi University (DU) has decided to discontinue the cut-off system for admission to DU colleges and instead the university will take admissions based on the entrance examination.

The statutory decision-making body of DU that decides the implementation of policies and measures is the Executive Committee (EC). It has approved the decision of taking admissions based on the entrance examination from the academic year 2022.

After being criticised for the high cut-off percentage, DU had set up a nine-member panel for giving suggestions on an “alternative strategy for optimal admissions in undergraduate courses”.

As per reports, the panel had suggested three options - admissions based on the entrance examination, considering 50% marks from Class 12 results and 50% from an entrance test and keeping the cut-off system. Of these, EC has approved the option of admissions based on the entrance examination from academic session 2022.

The university is yet to take any decision on whether it will conduct its own entrance examination or adopt the central government's Central University Common Entrance Test (CUCET).

EC has also approved the long-standing demand for paid maternity leave for ad hoc teachers and contractual staff. EC report says, “The Committee notes that ad hoc/contractual women teaching and non-teaching employees are engaged for a fixed term, paid maternity leave may be granted to such employees of the University/Colleges for a maximum period of 26 weeks within the specified time of such fixed term engagement,” as reported by Indian Express.
