Punjab Governor and Chancellor of the Punjabi University, Patiala Vijayender Pal Singh Badnore accepted the resignation of Dr BS Ghuman as Vice-Chancellor. Ghuman was given an extension for three years in September this year. However, he has resigned from his post on November 17. The university was allegedly facing financial difficulties and Ghuman had been unable to get the institution out of the mess, since taking charge in 2017.

However, in his resignation, Ghuman has allegedly cited personal reasons for the decision. Now, the charge has been given to Additional Chief Secretary Forests and Wildlife Ravneet Kaur till further orders, informed the Government of Punjab.

Senior IAS officer Ravneet Kaur, Chief Secretary-cum-Financial Commissioner, Forest and Wildlife, has been allocated the temporary charge of Vice-Chancellor, Punjabi University, Patiala. The decision in this regard was passed by the office of Rakesh Bhandari, Under Secretary, Punjab Raj Bhavan.

Ravneet Kaur is an IAS officer of the 1988 batch and has worked as a Principal Secretary in the Departments of Higher Education and Languages, Coordination and Parliamentary Affairs. About 274 colleges are affiliated with the Punjabi University. It has 6 regional centres, 12 constituent colleges, 9 campuses and 65 teaching or research departments.

It has created various departments, including the Faculty of Arts and Culture, Faculty of Languages, Faculty of Social Sciences, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Business Studies, Faculty of Life Sciences, Faculty of Medicine, Faculty of Computing Sciences, Faculty of Physical Sciences, Faculty of Engineering, Faculty of Education and Information Science.
