Goa government has informed the high court of Bombay at Goa that Goa University will hold the final year examination from February 16 in offline mode. Earlier, Goa University was scheduled to conduct the exams from January 17, however, after some students filed a petition in the high court, the university issued a circular postponing the exams to February 7. Now, the varsity has said that it will work as per the recommendations of the state expert committee and conduct the exam from February 16.

The advocate for a group of petitioners, Parag Rao, asked the court if the expert committee could reconvene on February 15 after the assembly elections to assess the situation. He said the election could be a super spreader with lakhs of people voting. The high court stated that Goa University will be sensitive to the problem and take cognisance of it, and the division bench comprising justices Mahesh Sonak and R N Laddha advised students to go vote at a time when there is less crowd.

Students had approached the high court urging that the exams should either be cancelled or should be held online. The students said that if the exams are conducted offline, it will jeapordise their lives and the safety of their family members. The issue pertains to conducting the examination for final year students of all streams.
