IGNOU has given more time to students a chance to apply for its UG, PG, diploma and certificate courses.

Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU) has announced an extension of deadline for fresh admissions and re-registration for July 2025 academic session to August 31, 2025. Extension applies to both Open and Distance Learning (ODL) and Online course, giving students an additional two weeks to get admitted into its undergraduate, postgraduate, diploma, and certificate courses.

Fresh applicants can register through the official Samarth Admission Portal (ignouadmission.samarth.edu.in), while continuing learners can re-register for their next semester or year through the Samarth Student Portal (onlinerr.ignou.ac.in). IGNOU in a tweet has mentioned that the decision aims to accommodate students facing last-minute challenges with documentation or online submissions, ensuring wider participation in the July cycle.

The university in its tweet has reiterated its 50% fee concession policy for Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) candidates in undergraduate programmes across arts, science, and commerce streams. However, the concession excludes students who are already availing benefits under other government schemes.

IGNOU admission cycle opens twice in a year i.e. January and July. The registrations for January session usually begins in December and close by March. The July session for ODL/ Online programmes begin in May and continue till July. The mode of application is online for all the courses.

For the IGNOU MBA course, the minimum aggregate is 50% (45% for reserved category candidates). Candidates must hold the pass certificates (original/ copies) at the time of admission. A: 

Yes, students get IGNOU BSc asmission with 50% marks in Class 12 boards. It is mandatory to qualify class 12 in Science strea, with Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. The institute accepts application through online mode. 

IGNOU’s July admission session attracts lakhs of candidates from across India and also overseas, making it one of the largest open university enrolments globally. With the deadline now extended to August 31, officials expect a surge in registrations, particularly from working professionals and first-generation learners opting for IGNOU’s flexible study options.

Varsity has urged students not to wait until last date to complete the admission process, as no further extensions are likely beyond the deadline August 31.
