IIT Kharagpur has added new MTech seats for 2026-27 under its Platinum Jubilee Scheme to expand postgraduate opportunities based on GATE scores.
IIT Kharagpur MTech Admission 2026: Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur has announced additional MTech seats for 2026-27 academic session. Launched as part of institute's Platinum Jubilee celebrations, this initiative aims to expand postgraduate education opportunities in important and emerging technology areas. These additional seats will be filled through regular MTech admission based on GATE scores and existing admission guidelines.
Additional MTech Seats Introduced Under Platinum Jubilee Scheme
Director's Platinum Jubilee Scheme has been introduced to increase access to advanced technical education by creating additional MTech seats in selected strategic disciplines involving multiple departments, centres and schools at IIT Kharagpur.
This is designed to strengthen postgraduate education in areas of national importance and contribute to building a highly skilled technical workforce. The expansion is expected to enhance research capabilities and creating more opportunities for deserving students seeking advanced engineering education.

The cutoff is the minimum mark that is required for all candidates to qualify for the exam. IIT Guwahati announced GATE result 2026 on March 19.
IIT Kharagpur has clarified that admissions to these additional seats will be conducted through regular MTech admission. Candidates must have valid GATE score. They must also meet all existing eligibility criteria and admission norms. No separate application process has been announced for these newly created seats.
Speaking about initiative, Professor Suman Chakraborty, Director of IIT Kharagpur, said that expanding postgraduate opportunities during the institute's Platinum Jubilee year reflects IIT Kharagpur's commitment to supporting deserving students while strengthening the country's future research and technological capabilities.
Important Update for Existing MTech Candidates
IIT Kharagpur has advised candidates who have already applied for MTech admission 2026-27 but have not yet received an admission offer to regularly monitor their registered email accounts.
The institute has stated that as additional seats become available under Platinum Jubilee Scheme, candidates may receive admission offers through official email communication channel.
