
Team Siddhi, the technology and sustainable development platform of IIT-M, is organising the event, which will be conducted till April 1.
The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras and the African-Asian Rural Development Organisation (AARDO) will be conducting a week-long e-training course on technologies for rural areas. The e-training programme aims to create access to value chains and markets that affect the livelihood of rural people.
Team Siddhi, the technology and sustainable development platform of IIT-M, is organising the event, which will be conducted till April 1.
Some of the technologies, solutions and approaches developed by the institute will be showcased during the programme held for the benefit of middle and senior-level executives from government departments, Ministries and agriculture engineers and scientists.
The event can also be accessed through the youtube channel of the institute.
According to Bhaskar Ramamurthi, IIT-M Director, the training programme will help in sharing experience and knowledge that exists among the rural population.
The course components include innovative technologies for sustainable food production (post-harvest technology); for enhancing the productivity of small farmers; facilitating access to value chains and markets; supporting financial inclusion; policies and initiatives conducive to development and transfer of technologies from lab to farm; facilitating collectivization, bulk purchase of inputs and traceability; intellectual property rights and technology transfer; and developing various institutions for rural technologies.
Earlier, the IIT Madras had set-up an institute advisory board' comprising eminent alumni and well-wishers from around the world. The board has been formed with an aim to provide guidance on the best global practices enabling it to emerge as one of the top educational and research institutions globally. According to IIT-M, the new board constituted is a part of the institute of eminence (IoE) initiative, where institutes with global recognition provided financial assistance of upto Rs 1,000 crore over a period of five years.
