Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has hosted Asiaโ€™s first workshop on International Memory Studies virtually. The aim of this workshop was to precede the launch of the Indian Network for Memory Studies officially and bring together the participants from all over the world. The workshop was conducted from April 26 to 30, 2021 and had 108 registered participants.

IIT Madras is in the process of building an XR Lab using virtual tools such as Augmented Reality/Virtual Reality to curate, comprehend & critique various facets of literature, history and culture. The launch of the Indian Network for Memory Studies will take place in mid-June 2021 through a virtual event at IIT Madras.

IIT Madras International Memory Studies workshop was conducted to provide a pioneering scholarly platform to train and mentor doctoral and postdoctoral researchers in Memory Studies, to align interests from different disciplinary locations and identify research convergences to foster institute-level collaborations in India as well as internationally, to facilitate the emergence of research methods and innovative, interactive, immersive tools in Memory Studies with the aid of digital technologies, to facilitate the formation of research clusters and networks academically as well as with industry partners.

The international Memory Studies Workshop conducted by IIT Madras also proved to be a promising platform. It brought together the academicians from Kashmir, Orissa, Madhya Pradesh, Bihar, Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Delhi, Rajasthan, and Jharkhand among others as well as from the University of Warwick and Leeds Beckett University, UK.
