IIT Madras invites applications for International Immersion Experience Travel Awards

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Madras has invited applications for its International Immersion Experience (IIE) programme that will provide highly motivated students partial financial support to travel to a partner institution abroad. The applications are open till September 30, 2021. 

The IIE programme aims to facilitate highly motivated students who work on the cutting edge research at IIT Madras to travel to a partner institution abroad. IIE Travel Awards aims to partially support up to 100 students through a competitive proposal call. These awards will be based on the academic credentials of the student, the merit of the proposal, and the quality of the host lab, the institute said. Who can apply for IIE programme? 

• The research scholars who have completed their course work with a minimum CGPA of 8 are eligible to apply. 
• The applicant is expected to have cleared their PhD comprehensive exam in their respective departments. 
• Should have identified a collaborator abroad who works on complementary research (visit to an existing collaborator is allowed). 
• Applicants should have relevant permission from the guide(s), HoD, and the supervisor at the host lab. 
• Host lab should be from a reputed university or research institute with a strong international standing. 
• Students with any complaints against them (past or ongoing), such as copying/plagiarism/sexual harassment will not be eligible to apply. 

Duration of programme 

The students are expected to spend a minimum of 45 days at the host lab. The IIE travel grant can be used for a maximum stay of three months in the host lab. If additional time at the host lab is planned, the funds for this have to be arranged by the student working with her/his guide. The student will be entitled to up to Rs 3 lakh (IIE award from the institute), an additional up to Rs 1 Lakh (from the alumni travel grant); however, combining the IIE travel grant with a conference travel grant from IITM is highly recommended.
