"We have formed a committee to look into implementation of the University Grants Commission (UGC) directives on four-year undergraduate degrees. The committee is looking into the matter and it is expected to submit a report in this regard soon," Registrar Nazim Husain Al-Jafri said.

"The committee is strategising ways to divide the three-year syllabus into four years," he added. "The Academic Council will discuss the matter during a meeting in January. After that, the Executive Council will discuss the matter," Al-Jafri added.

The UGC has earlier notified the curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate programmes which will provide students with multiple options for entry and exit, a choice between single major and double major and interdisciplinary choices of subjects. It has asked all higher education institutions to take the necessary steps to adopt the curriculum and credit framework for undergraduate programmes.
