JMI VC meets President Murmu to grant permission for setting up medical college, offshore campus

President Droupadi Murmu met Jamia Millia Islamia (JMI) Vice Chancellor Najma Akhtar and congratulated her for the varsity's achievements. During the meeting, the JMI VC urged the President to grant permission for setting up a medical college, offshore campuses and additional faculty positions.

JMI medical college will not only help people who are living in South Delhi but also those who are living in nearby cities in UP and Haryana, the varsity said in a statement. Further, the VC informed the President the varsity wants to set-up a Department of Tribal Studies and Development and a hostel for tribal students and sought her help for the same.

Additionally, the institute is also planning to establish a Department of Modern Indian Languages, a nursing college and a Faculty of Alternative Medicine at JMI.

Najma Akhtar briefed the President that "JMI was granted A++ accreditation by NAAC in 2021, for a period of 5 years, and it is among the top three universities of the country as per the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) released by the ministry of education."

"While stating that the university has made significant improvements in international rankings like QS, Times Higher Education (THE) etc, she requested the President to grant ‘Institute of Eminence’ status. She also invited the President for the upcoming convocation of the university," as per the official statement.
