Lucknow University professor thrashed by student for his comment on Kashi Vishwanath temple

An associate professor of Lucknow University has been allegedly thrashed by a student for his views and comments on the Kashi Vishwanath temple. As per the reports, the alleged incident took place on May 18, a day after an FIR was lodged against the professor for his comments on the temple. 

After the incident, the police arrested the student for breach of peace. The accused, Karthik Pandey, who is pursuing a postgraduate course in Sanskrit thrashed the professor for his comment. He has been suspended from Lucknow University and a committee has also been constituted to investigate the matter. Pandey was also dismissed from the Samajwadi Party, where he was a member of the Chhatra Sabha in the Lucknow University unit.

On May 10, the Indian Express reported that a police complaint has been filed again the associate professor Ravi Kant, for his alleged objectionable comments about the Varanasi's Kashi Vishwanath Temple. On the basis of a complaint lodged by an ABVP member, he was arrested on multiple accusations, including promoting enmity.

The professor informed that the assault on him took place on Wednesday and was a follow-up to the incident on May 10. Pandey and unidentified students have been charged under IPC sections 323, 352, 504, and 506 in response to Kant's complaint. The accused was also charged under the SC/ST Act.

Meanwhile, Lucknow University has announced that the summer vacation for all the students will begin from May 20 and will continue until July 3.
