Mangalore University to begin dual degrees from next academic year
Mangalore University has announced that it will begin dual degree programmes from next academic year; i.e. 2023-24. The courses will be both at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels. The University has taken the initiative in line with the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines as well as National Education Policy 2020. The guidelines emphasizes on the need to facilitate multiple pathways to details. The details about the dual degree programmes will be mentioned in the next year's brochure, the varsity said.
Mangalore University Vice-Chancellor P S Yadapadithaya approved the guidelines. He chaired the meeting which was conducted to have a discussion on pursuing two academic programmes simultaneously.
On Tuesday, the VC said "a student will be able to pursue two UG, two diploma and two PG programmes, or one PG programme and one UG programme, without violating eligibility conditions for admission to these programmes, with an online or open and distance learning course, simultaneously. It has been done with an aim of multidisciplinary and holistic education. It will offer students a range of disciplines, including professional technical and vocational subjects."
The council has also given nod to maternity leave of 240 days for women students. The University recently invited applications for Under Graduate Degree Programme (Semester system). Interested candidates had to apply on official website till September 23, 2022.
The varsity has also announced that on the occasion of Dusshera, the University will be closed from September 29 to October 3, 2022. It will reopen on Tuesday, October 4, 2022.
