Osmania University to introduce AI, ML to mark employees' attendance
The institution has implemented CCTV-based attendance, which uses cameras with AI and ML integration to record employees' attendance as well as their log-in and log-out times when they enter or exit a building. The facial recognition technology incorporated into the cameras is used to register attendance. It uses cognitive AI functions to identify facial biometrics and syncs with the existing database.
Technology adoption has spread to every aspect of life, and advances in the sector have redefined even the essential everyday tasks performed at work. Thanks to artificial intelligence (AI) and machine learning (ML), the customary daily marking of attendance is also changing.
Now, utilising technology, Osmania University intends to eliminate the need for biometric attendance or register signing by implementing AI & ML. Employees of the university working out of the administrative building don't even need to enter; attendance is automatically recorded.

The new project has been implemented on a trial basis for university staff working in the main administrative building, and the university plans to expand it to its other offices, colleges, and dorms on campus. The university presently uses facial recognition technology in addition to manual registers to track attendance.
“In the present system, an employee can mark attendance in the morning and leave the office, and come back to record log out time. This will not be the case with CCTV camera based attendance, as they continuously capture movement besides holding employees log details. We have incorporated AI and ML into two cameras,” an official said.
"The CCTV cameras are helping in ascertaining how many times a visitor has visited the administrative building. Log details of all visitors are recorded in the database,” the official added.
