Patna University (PU) has announced the establishment of its new research and development cell (RDC) in line with the UGC’s directive to promote research activities in the universities and integrate the research findings with social development initiatives.

The RDC has got a nine-member advisory council headed by PU vice-chancellor Girish Kumar Chaudhary. PU zoology department’s senior faculty and PU’s former development officer, Parimal Kumar Khan, have been appointed RDC’s director.

Other members of the research advisory council are pro-VC Ajay Kumar Singh, students’ welfare dean Anil Kumar, botany department’s senior faculty Birendra Prasad, geology department head Atul Aditya Pandey, home science department head Anju Srivastava, Vanijya Mahavidyalaya senior faculty N K Jha, education department faculty Khagendra Kumar and RDC director (member secretary).

While speaking to TOI, the VC said that "PU on Tuesday transferred a sum of INR 3 crore to this newly-created body to enhance research activities on the campus. While a sum of INR 2 crore is earmarked for awarding financial assistance to the minor research projects to be undertaken by university teachers, another sum of INR 1 crore is earmarked for the publication of university-level research journals."

"The RDC will also motivate the faculty to send research proposals of societal relevance to different funding agencies like UGC, DST, DBT and ICSSR for financial assistance," he said.

The VC said "RDC will act as a facilitator for networking and collaborative research with other national and international institutions working in inter- disciplinary, trans-disciplinary and multidisciplinary research areas. PU proposes to establish collaborations, partnerships and combined ventures for joint research activities through clustering institutions and organizations to facilitate the exchange of students, scholars and faculty."
