A group of students of Punjabi University blocked the University entry gate and sought action in 15 of the probe matters of misappropriation and others pending since 2017. Secular Youth Federation of India (SYFI) students said that the number of cases, including the misappropriation of university funds during the purchase of fire equipment, software and paper purchases; recruitment of 62 ineligible Assistant Professors and others had been pending since they were first raised in 2017.
Harvinder, a member, the Secular Youth Federation of India, said: “The university should take up the probe matters during the Syndicate meeting planned to be held on March 29 and act against those found guilty. The university has been delaying the matter for five years.”
Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann said that he is working on making Punjabi University debt-free so that it regains its glory as a seat of higher learning. .
“I guarantee to make Punjabi University free from debt so as to regain its pristine glory as a seat of higher learning in northern India,” said Mann. He said providing a world-class education to students of the state was the Punjab government’s priority, as reported by the Print.
