With the decline in COVID cases and its variant Omicron across the country, several colleges and Universities have now started announcing the dates for the reopening of their campuses. The colleges, however, have been requested to ensure all COVID-19 protocols are followed such as restricted entries, utilizing sanitizers, face masks, face shields, respiratory behavior etc.

Students have been eagerly waiting to return to campus which has been kept closed amid the spike in COVID cases. Meanwhile, Flame University has announced that it will reopen its campus on February 7, 2022. The University had earlier shifted the classes in online mode to avoid academic loss of the students. Along with this, OP Jindal University has also announced that it will reopen its campus from February 27, 2022.

Professor Gautam Menon of Ashoka University, who has been working on tracking the trajectory of coronavirus waves in India, has said that the sharp decline in daily cases and the positivity rate shows that the Omicron wave is subsiding and retreating. “We’re on the downswing of the slope,” he said, as reported by The Wire.

He further added that the models have suggested the Omicron wave in India would peak in different places between January 20 and February 10 and this is precisely what is now happening. It’s already peaked and started to recede in big cities and that will now also happen in the rest of the country.

Ashoka University has decided to reopen its campus from March, considering that by then it will be comparatively safer for the students to return to the campus.

West Bengal government has also announced that the schools, colleges in the state will be reopened for offline classes from February 3. Along with West Bengal, many other states including Jharkhand, Puducherry and others have also decided to reopen their colleges and educational institutions.
