The government officials stated that the remedial classes were cancelled due to severe cold wave and dense fog conditions in the region.

Amid the dropping temperature, the Delhi government has released directions on the suspension of remedial classes during winter break for students of Classes 9 and 12 in all government schools with immediate effect. The Directorate of Education (DoE) issued an official notice in this regard. The government officials stated that the remedial classes were cancelled due to severe cold wave and dense fog conditions in the region.

Class 10, 12 practical and internal assessments to be conducted as per schedule

However, the practical exam, project assessment and internal assessment for classes 10 and 12 will continue as per schedule. The notice was issued on the day when temperatures dropped to 1.9 degree-Celsius Delhi's Safdarjung. It was the lowest in January in the past two years.

"Keeping in view the prevailing conditions of extreme cold wave in Delhi, all the Heads of Govt. Schools of the Directorate of Education are directed to suspend these remedial classes with immediate effect," the official notice read.

"However, work of conduct of Practical Examination/ Project Assessment/ Internal Assessment for classes X and XII for session 2022-23 will continue as per schedule," the official statement further added.

Delhi Private Schools closed until January 15

Meanwhile, the Delhi government has also released directions for private schools regarding the extension of winter break until January 15. Schools have received strict directions on winter break extension amid severely cold weather.

According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), cold wave to severe cold wave conditions in isolated pockets are very likely to continue over north Rajasthan, south Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi and East Madhya Pradesh on January 9 and cold wave conditions in isolated pockets on January 10 over the region.

Dense to very dense fog is very likely to continue in some parts during night and morning hours over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi & adjoining north Rajasthan and Uttar Pradesh during the next two days.
