 No, NIFT campus allotment is final. However, seat upgrades may be possible based on availability.

The National Testing Agency (NTA) has announced its weeding out policy for the NIFT Entrance Examination 2026. According to the guidelines, the records related to the NIFT 2026 exam will be preserved for only 90 days from the date of result declaration. After this period, all data, including answer sheets and score details, may be discarded as part of the routine record management process.

If you’re on the NIFT waiting list, your admission depends on seat withdrawals by other candidates. NIFT will notify you if a seat becomes available.

NIFT 2026 Admission offer letters will be released after the counseling and seat allocation process. You can download them from the NIFT admission portal.

·     Marks refer to the raw numerical value obtained by a candidate in each section of the exam (CAT, GAT, Situation Test or Interview). Score generally means the combined or weighted total after applying the respective weightages assigned to each test component (e.g., 50% CAT+GAT + 20% Situation Test for B.Des).

In other words, we can say that:

• Marks = What you got in the paper
• Score = What counts towards your final rank after applying weightages

No, the final rank is allocated only at the time of declaration of NIFT Final Result. The NIFT Final Rank is based on performance in all the stages of the Entrance Exam: Stage 1 and Stage 2. Once the NIFTEE Final Result is declared:
•    NIFT Ranks cannot be changed or improved
•    There will be no option or opportunity for revaluation or rechecking.
•    The NIFT rank will determine the course, campus and eligibility for counselling.

NIFT 2026 final merit list is based on performance in the Creative Ability Test (CAT), General Ability Test (GAT), Situation Test, and/or Personal Interview, depending on the program. The weightage of different stages in the NIFT selection process is
•    B. Des: CAT (50%), GAT (30%), Situation Test (20%)
•    M. Des: CAT (40%), GAT (30%), GD/PI (30%)
•    MFM/MFTech: GAT (70%), GD/PI (30%)

The final results (including Situation Test & Personal Interview scores) will be declared in May 2026.

The official competition ratio for final NIFT 2026 admissions is approximately 1 seat for every 7 applicants, giving it an acceptance rate of roughly 13% to 15%.

The 20 participating NIFTs offer B.Des and M.Des courses with specializations in various disciplines.

Common Merit Rank of 1500 is a decent rank to secure a NIFT College. You can get colleges, like NIFT Delhi, NIFT Mumbai, NIFT Kolkata, if you belong to OBC, ST, SC or EWS Category. If you are from General Category, then the chances of getting top NIFT Colleges are less. However, you can still get into these colleges for specialisations like Knitwear, Accessory Design, Leather Design, etc.

i. Each question carries 01 (One) mark.

ii. For each correct response, the candidate will get 01 (One) mark.

iii. For each incorrect response, -0.25 mark will be deducted from the total score.

iv. Un-answered/un-attempted will be given no marks.

v. To answer a question, the candidate needs to choose one option as the correct option.

vi. However, after the process of Challenges of the Answer Key, in case there are multiple correct options or change in key, only those candidates who have attempted it correctly

as per the revised Answer key will be awarded marks.

vii. In case a Question is dropped due to some technical error, full marks shall be given to all the candidates irrespective of the fact who have attempted it or not.

The record of NIFT Entrance Examination-2026 will be preserved up to 90 days from the date of declaration of the result.

For NIFT Stage 2 (UG/PG): Marks obtained in the NIFT Skill Test / Studio Test / Interview shall be given preference for making the final merit list and rank.

NTA will display the Recorded Responses and Question Paper attempted by the candidates on the NTA website prior to the declaration of the results. The recorded responses are likely to be displayed for two to three days.

3000 rank is not good, but can be said to be a decent rank. The chances of getting a top-tier college if you are of General Category are very low. This is because the cutoff for the top NIFT Campuses, like NIFT Delhi, NIFT Mumbai, NIFT Kolkata, is very high, and the admission closes at around 1000 rank.

Candidates who have been allocated seats will have to pay the seat-acceptance fees of INR 1,83,200 (approx.).

Candidates who have secured a valid Common Merit Rank (CMR) in the NIFT final result will be asked to register in the last week of June 2026 on the official NIFT counselling portal:

• Cutoff of NIFT 2026 Rounds will be released for UG and PG Programmes.
• The cut-off for all the rounds will be released after the seat allotment is made. 

Yes, a 2000 rank in NIFT can get you admission in NIFT College. But the chances of getting admission to the top NIFT institutes may be less. At the 2000 rank, candidates have limited choice and can get into new NIFTs Colleges. If your rank is under 800, then you are likely to get top NIFT Colleges, like NIFT Delhi, NIFT Mumbai, NIFT Bengaluru, etc. But there can be a chance of getting a top NIFT Institute also, if a seat remains vacant in the other rounds of NIFT Counselling.
