Doctor in his twenties dies of heart attack in Hyderabad
A young doctor of Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad has passed away due to a heart attack.
In a shocking incident, a doctor in his late twenties has died in Gandhi Medical College, Hyderabad hospital campus due to a heart attack.
Dr Poorna Chander was 28 years old and had just completed a senior residency in general surgery at Gandhi Medical College. The incident took place on Wednesday morning when the late doctor was inside the hospital campus with other senior residents and he suddenly collapsed. He was immediately shifted to Acute Medical Care (AMC) and was given CPR (Cardiopulmonary resuscitation) but he did not respond to the treatment. The doctors declared him dead due to a heart attack.
Reportedly, the young doctor had complained of slight chest pain and upset stomach a day before he died and had even taken some medicines for an upset stomach.
This incident has also highlighted the stress issues in the lives of young medicos due to a demanding career and the pressure to do well academically as well.
“There is no denying the fact that we have unrealistic expectations. There is also this urge among young doctors to become high achievers overnight, which doesn’t happen. We did not have to face this kind of pressure to excel from the society while pursuing MBBS and speciality courses. There’s definite need to have a holistic look at stress management among young doctors,” said Superintendent, Gandhi Hospital, Dr M Raja Rao, as reported by Telangana Today.
