24,000+ Engineering Seats Left After KCET Final Round! What's Next for Aspirants?

The Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) has left close to 24000 seats vacant, so will there be a fourth round of counselling? Or spot admissions? Thousands of hopeful students are asking one burning question: Will KEA announce a surprise Round 4 or a spot admission process?

Here is a one line answer for the same, NO there will be no fourth round of centralized counselling or a generalized spot admission round. Following the completion of college reporting on September 11, 2026, KEA handed over all the 24,283 remaining vacant engineering seats back to the respective colleges. These seats must now be filled through decentralized, college-level management admissions.

Putting an end to all speculation, official notifications reveal that there will be no further centralized counselling rounds or KEA-led spot admissions. The centralized portal has officially shut down for the 2026 engineering admissions cycle.

Instead of holding another round, KEA has transferred the unallocated seat matrices directly to respective engineering institutions to be filled through institutional or management-level desks.

Some of the top institutions like R.R. Institute of Technology has close to 420 vacant seats, Rajeev Institute of Technology has 387 vacant seats, and the M S Engineering College has close to 386 seats.

What Should Leftover Students Do Right Now?

If any candidate has missed out on a seat during the first three rounds, their journey isn't over but the strategy has shifted entirely. They must rather follow the below process - 

• Stop waiting for a notification link on cetonline.karnataka.gov.in.

• Go Direct to the College website and enquiry for immediate B.Tech enrollment of their target colleges.

• As these are now college-level admissions, directly visiting or calling the college admission cells is the fastest route to securing a spot.

However, the countdown is on, and with colleges already commencing classes, these seats will be filled up on a first-come, first-served basis!
