KEA Fee Discrepancy Sparks Confusion Over Aided Engineering College Fees For 2026-27

The Karnataka Higher Education Department has demanded clarification from Karnataka Examinations Authority (KEA) regarding a INR 9,500 discrepancy in aided engineering college fee structure for 2026-27 academic year. It has directed KEA to resolve a critical error in published fee structure for aided engineering colleges for 2026-27 academic session.

The confusion surfaced after the B.M.S College of Engineering (BMSCE) submitted a memorandum pointing out a mismatch between government orders and KEA's provisional portal. 

While the state government sanctioned a 5% increase in tuition fees bringing total approved fee to INR 47,100 (inclusive of a INR 10,000 "Other Fee" component) KEA's public fee matrix listed the "Other Fee" as just INR 500.

This discrepancy has left college administrations at a stand still. Institutions are asking whether the INR 500 listed by KEA is an additional charge to be collected over mandated INR 10,000, or if state's originally approved fee has been unexpectedly slashed.

KEA Fee Confusion

In a letter signed by Sunitha R. Bedare, Under Secretary to the Government (Higher Education), the department has ordered KEA to review its fee structure and issue an official clarification to prevent administrative chaos during the ongoing admission cycle.
