All hostellers of Assam University have been asked to vacate their rooms, as the varsity plans to make the hostels on the campus as a quarantine center. 

In order to make Assam University a quarantine center, the varsity has asked residents of its hostels to collect their belongings from their rooms.

As per the notice released by Assam University, “boarders are allowed to take their belongings from the respective hostels on May 25 and May 26 between 10 am and 4 pm”.

The notice further stated that boarders will be required to produce their identity cards at the security gate and make a proper entry in the register. In case a student is not able to come, any authorized person with an authorization letter can collect the belongings but must first produce a valid photo identity card.

For all those students who have left for their hometown already and have no one to collect their belongings, the district administration will get their items packed and marked properly so that students can collect it at a later date.

As per the data released by the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, the total number of coronavirus cases in Assam is 329 as of May 24.

Due to the coronavirus outbreak, classes were suspended and students were asked to vacate the campus and head back to their respective homes in mid-March. The campuses of various educational institutes around the country have been turned into quarantine shelters to help the government in its fight against COVID-19.

The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay, Indian Institute of Management Shillong (IIM Shillong) hostels are some of the institutes functioning as quarantine centers in India.
