Degrees awarded to 261 students were awarded during at IIT Bombay’s Interim Session of 60th Convocation Ceremony

Padma Bhusan Dr. Krishna M. Ella has urged the Indian Institute of Technology graduates to be an innovator and not copy, start with a startup and be a lifelong knowledge seeker.

Dr Ella was speaking during IIT Bombay’s 60th Convocation ceremony during which degrees were awarded to 261 students. This session was the first event that was held in physical presence of degree recipients, the guests and invitees at IIT Bombay since the lockdown two years ago.

At the interim session of 60th convocation, 284 degrees were awarded, which include 189 PhD, 20 Dual Degrees [10( M.tech.+Ph.D.) and 10 (M.sc.+Ph.D.)] were awarded to 209 students. In addition, 95 degrees including 29 B.Tech., 2 B.Des., 1 BS, 10 M.Tech., 2 M.des., 2 M.phil., 6 M.sc., 5 MS by Research, 7 PGDIIT, 6 DD (B.Tech.+M.tech.) and 5 (E-MBA) degrees were awarded to 68 students.

The degrees were conferred upon those students who have completed all the requirements during the period from August 2021 to January 2022 and have requested for the degree to be awarded earlier than the 60th Convocation. The function was presided by Padma Bhusan Dr. Krishna M. Ella, Chairman and Managing Director of Bharat Biotech and inventor of Covaxin as the Chief Guest, in the presence of Dr. Pawan Goenka, Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Bombay and Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri, Director, IIT Bombay among others.

Addressing the graduates, Dr. Ella emphasized on the importance of clinical research, and asked the students, “to be an innovator and not copy, start with a startup and be a lifelong knowledge seeker, keen observer, and be passionate of solving societal problems”.

The Chairman of the Board of Governors, IIT Bombay Dr. Pawan Goenka in his address, said, “IITs have convinced me that the caliber of researchers and innovators in India is as good as anywhere else in the world. I urge you to translate that caliber into scientific discovery that will make the world a better place to live in and to never go too far from Science and Technology. This is where the action is and is going to continue to be.”

Congratulating the graduating students and their families, Director of IIT Bombay Prof. Subhasis Chaudhuri said, “This being the first fully physical event in the campus in last two years, it was a delight to see the sea of joy among the graduates and their relatives in the Convocation Hall. I am sure that our graduates will work hard to solve our societal problems”.

Apart from the students and faculty members of the Institute, the ceremony was attended by the families and friends of the students.
