MHT CET 2026 exam twice a year

MHT CET 2026 exam will be held in April and May, following the JEE Model

In a landmark decision, the state government of Maharashtra has approved conducting the MHT CET exam twice a year, starting with the 2026-27 academic year. The change was announced by Higher & Technical Education Minister, Chandrakant Patil, after a review meeting with officials of the State Common Entrance Test Cell.

Under the new system, students will get two opportunities, one in April and the other in May, to sit for the exam, which is held for admissions into engineering (PCM), pharmacy/medical (PCB) and MBA courses. The better of the two scores will be considered for admission purposes.

The reform is inspired by the national-level model of the JEE Main, which is held twice a year. It aims to reduce examination pressure, allow more flexibility in preparation and align Maharashtra’s entrance process with national standards. Implementation details, including registration schedule, exam centres and exact dates, will be issued by the CET Cell soon.

The MHT CET (Maharashtra Common Entrance Test) is a state-level entrance exam conducted by the State Common Entrance Test Cell, Maharashtra for admission to engineering, pharmacy, and agriculture courses in colleges across the state. It is taken by students from the PCM (Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics) and PCB (Physics, Chemistry, Biology) streams after Class 12. The CET Cell also conducts entrances for several streams. There are approximately 1.3 engineering seats in Maharashtra that are available through the MHT CET exam and about 25,000 seats for Pharmacy.
