BIT Mesra has signed an MoU with Madan Mohan Mohanka to establish the ‘Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship’ aimed at fostering innovation and entrepreneurial growth.

Birla Institute of Technology (BIT) Mesra signed a landmark Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Madan Mohan Mohanka, Chairman of Tega Industries and Distinguished Alumnus (Class of 1964), to establish the Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship at its Mesra campus in Ranchi, Jharkhand.
Reaffirming his commitment to advancing innovation and entrepreneurship in India, Mohanka has pledged INR 5 Crores to support the initiative. The Centre is envisioned as a vibrant hub for startup incubation, research, and entrepreneurial ventures, empowering students, faculty, and the youth of the region to transform ideas into impactful enterprises.
This initiative is expected to inspire other alumni to contribute towards fostering a strong culture of innovation and entrepreneurship at the institute. The Centre will catalyse nurturing startups, deepening industry–academia collaboration, and equipping students with future-ready skills to thrive in India’s dynamic entrepreneurial ecosystem and make a global impact.
Speaking on the occasion, Madan Mohan Mohanka shared his pride in giving back to his alma mater by supporting innovation, entrepreneurship, and the growth of impactful startups at the institute. “With the establishment of the Madan Mohan Mohanka Centre for Innovation & Entrepreneurship, my vision is to inspire students to dream big and develop solutions that address the critical challenges of our time. This MoU carries deep personal significance, as it enables me to contribute meaningfully to both my alma mater and society,” said Madan Mohan Mohanka.
Prof. Indranil Manna, Vice Chancellor of BIT Mesra, expressed his gratitude and emphasised that this generous contribution will significantly advance the institute’s mission of fostering innovation and entrepreneurship. “The Centre will provide state-of-the-art infrastructure and expert mentorship to aspiring entrepreneurs, driving economic growth and job creation. It will also serve as a vibrant hub where creativity meets execution, enabling sustainable development,” said Prof. Manna.

BIT Mesra is ranked #90 in the NIRF 2024 rankings under the "Management" category. BIT Mesra MBA course-wise placements data is not available as of now. However, an overall report shows 192 companies visited its campus for the placements drive. The highest and average package offered stood at INR 51 LPA and INR 11.57 LPA, respectively. Some of the top recruiters for the institute in the recent past have been companies like Vedanta Group, Crompton Greaves Ltd., NTPC, Exide Industries, etc.
Birla Institute of Technology, Mesra, offers five-year BSc + MSc integrated programmes. The course is available in different specialisations, such as Mathematics and Computing, Physics, Food Technology, Chemistry, etc. Admission to these courses is entrance-based. Moreover, the total duration of the course is five years - BSc (three years) and MSc (two years). The institute may also allow the students to exit the course with a BSc degree after completing three years of the programme.
