Come October, MTech, MSc students can attend offline classes at IIT Kharagpur
Only those students who have received both doses of COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to attend physical classes.
MTech and MSc students who had taken admission last year in July had written to the IIT Kharagpur Director VK Tewari, urging him to reopen the campus as they were unable to do practicals. Considering the students’ requests, the Director allowed to open the campus for fully vaccinated MTech and MSc students.
The dean of students’ affairs, Dhrubajyoti Sen, told The Telegraph that all final-year students of the MSc and MTech courses with both doses of vaccine were being called back to the campus. He is quoted by the news portal as saying, “If they (MSc and MTech students) are not recalled now, they will graduate without visiting the campus.”
The lack of experience in the laboratories and workshops have raised questions on students’ career prospects. The practicals and lab work constitutes a large part of the technical courses.
MTech and MSc students returning to the campus will be divided into groups to avoid crowding. Only those BTech students who are facing resource constraints while attending online classes at home will be allowed on the campus. Meanwhile, students from top engineering colleges are demanding authroities to reopen campuses. They have started a campaign on Twitter titled #ReopenIIT_NIT_IIIT. Check out students’ reactions below.
IIT Patna has also reopened its campus for students pursuing PhD and doing project work. Only those students who have received at least one dose of COVID-19 vaccine will be allowed to attend physical classes on the campus.
