Institutions having a NIRF ranking within the top 100 in the Overall category for the year 2023 are eligible for selection of 15 consortiums with initial funding of Rs. 2 Crore each.

The Ministry of Education has invited proposals from Higher Education Institutions to establish Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for Artificial Intelligence. These centres will be established in areas such as Agriculture, Health and Sustainable Cities.
The Government of India today announced the launch of ‘Make AI in India and Make AI Work for India’, inviting proposals from HEIs. The announcement to establish these centres was made during the Budget 2023-24 announcement.
Education Ministry sharing the announcement on X (formerly Twitter) writes: “In pursuance of the Budget Announcement 2023-24, the Government approved the setting up of 3 Centres of Excellence (CoEs) for Artificial Intelligence in the sectors of Agriculture, Health and Sustainable Cities.”
The total financial outlay for the project will be Rs. 990 Crore. Eligible Institutes can now apply for setting up of 3 CoEs for AI. The Call for Proposals has been launched at the IIT Jammu website: https://iitjammu.ac.in/aicpmu.
Eligible Institutions
The Ministry of Education (MoE) invites proposals from Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) (having an NIRF ranking within the top 100 in the Overall category for the year 2023) for selection of 15 consortiums with an initial funding of Rs. 2 Crore each.
Each of these lead HEIs will function as the hub, which will be provided with an opportunity to present a Proof of Concept (POC) to set up a Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Artificial Intelligence (AI) in any of the three sectors: Agriculture, Health & Sustainable Cities.
