• Must be in 2nd/3rd/4th year of integrated programme (5-year programme, BTech + MTech)

• Candidates in their 4th or 5th year of the dual-degree programme (BTech + MBA) can also apply

The GATE 2027 online portal will be live on 27 August 2026, allowing candidates to create accounts, upload documents, and submit their applications in one go. The GATE 2027 application release time is not yet confirmed by officials.

GATE full form is Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering. Qualifying GATE offer various career opportunties, such as:

• MTech or ME admissions at IITs, IIITs, and GFTIs

• PhD at Universities and Research Institutes

• PSU jobs at BHEL, GAIL, NTPC, etc.

• Research work at ISRO or BARC. Some programs offer fellowships and stipends for research work after MTech completion.

• GATE-qualified candidates can also get into teaching in engineering colleges and institutes

• Candidates who have qualified for GATE exam can also get jobs at top MNCs, which often recruit students from IITs and NITs. 

• Candidates can also apply for Junior Research Fellowship with valid GATE score.

GATE application fee 2027 deadline is September 27, 2026 (with no late fee) and Oct 5, 2026 with late fees. The steps to apply can be checked below:

• Candidates must have an active verified account on DigiLocker with a verified email address.

• Mobile number must be associated with DigiLocker. It must be active to receive OTPs.

• Candidates are advised to create a separate "GATE2027" folder inside the DigiLocker drive to upload required documents, if any.

• Do not close or refresh the authentication window until the redirection process completes.

Indian nationals appearing for GATE 2027 must create or update their DigiLocker account for registration. Also, one have to provide their facial details for authentication purposes.
