IIT Bombay held its 63rd Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Function (DDAF), conferring a total of 3,135 degrees to 2,838 students, including 498 PhDs, of which 219 were awarded during the interim session on February 22, 2025.

IIT Bombay Convocation 2025: The Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Bombay hosted its 63rd Convocation and Departmental Degree Award Functions (DDAFs) across the respective academic units of the graduating students. Each DDAF was presided over by the Chief Guest, along with the Heads of Departments and faculty members. In total, 3,135 degrees were conferred upon 2,838 students, including 498 PhD degrees, of which 219 were awarded during the interim session of the 63rd Convocation held on February 22, 2025.

Institute Director Prof. Shireesh Kedare congratulated the graduating students, medal recipients, and their parents on the occasion. The President of India Gold Medal was awarded to Tamojeet Roychowdhury, a BTech student from the Department of Electrical Engineering, while the Institute Gold Medal was conferred upon Jacob Thomas Sony, a Dual Degree student from the Department of Mechanical Engineering. The Dr. Shankar Dayal Sharma Gold Medal was presented to Devashish Girish Bhave, an Interdisciplinary Dual Degree Programme (IDDDP) student from the Department of Chemistry. In addition to these top honours, several students received other gold and silver medals in recognition of their outstanding academic performance.

Undergraduate Degrees at IIT Bombay Convocation

During the academic year 2024 - 25, the undergraduate degrees awarded included 954 B.Tech, 210 Dual Degree (B.Tech + M.Tech), and 45 Interdisciplinary Dual Degrees (B.Tech/BS + M.Tech/MBA). In addition, 81 four-year BS, 7 Dual Degree (BS + M.Sc.), 26 B.Des., 11 Dual Degree (B.Des. + M.Des.), and 10 three-year BS degrees were conferred. On the postgraduate front, the Institute awarded 639 M.Tech, 44 M.S. (by Research), 8 M.A. (by Research), 64 M.Des., 8 M.A., 4 MDP, 302 two-year M.Sc., 113 MBA, 13 MPP, and 20 PGDIIT degrees.

PhD Degrees Awarded at IIT Bombay Convocation 2025

During the academic year 2024โ€“25, a total of 498 PhD degrees were conferred. This includes 235 standalone PhDs, 17 Dual Degrees of M.Tech/M.Phil + PhD, 7 Dual Degrees of M.Sc. + PhD, and 20 Joint PhDs with Monash University, along with 219 PhDs awarded during the interim session of the 63rd Convocation held in February 2025. Of these, 170 were awarded to female scholars and 328 to male scholars.

Joint PhD Convocation with Monash University

The Joint PhD Convocation Ceremony of IIT Bombay and Monash University was held on August 23, 2025. The event began with an academic procession led by Prof. Shireesh Kedare, Director of IIT Bombay; Dr. Megan Clark AC, Chancellor of Monash University; and Prof. Craig Jeffrey, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (International), Monash University, accompanied by senior leaders from both institutions. The ceremony featured inspiring addresses by dignitaries, the conferment of Joint PhD degrees upon 20 research scholars, and concluded with the Excellence Awards Ceremony.
