An 18 year old students jumped from the seventh floor of his hostel building on Sunday afternoon

The Indian Institute of Technology Bombay has constituted a committee to investigate the incident in which a student dies by suicide after jumping off hostel building.

As per a statement issued by IIT Bombay, “It is unfortunate that such a loss could not be prevented despite the efforts of the Institute and Student Mentors to support our students. A committee has been constituted to investigate the incident.”

IIT has stated that the student was one of its first year B.Tech students, Darshan Solanki, who was 18 year old, jumped from the seventh floor of his hostel building on Sunday afternoon. The student was a native of Ahmedabad and was pursuing B.Tech at IIT Bombay.

“It is a great loss to the family and to the IITB Community. We pray that his family gets the strength to bear this loss. The Institute is with his family at this difficult time. We deeply mourn the tragic loss of Darshan’s life,” reads IIT Bombay statement.

Yesterday, the Institute held a condolence meeting. It stated: “While we cannot change what has already happened, we will further increase our efforts to prevent such events in future.”
