The two scholars teamed up to participate in the competition under the category of Student Innovators and submitted an idea of a benchtop digital setup with an algorithm to record initial health screenings like body temperature, pulse rate, eye and tongue analysis of a patient remotely.

A team of research scholars at the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Guwahati has created a digital health system that can carry out health check-ups remotely -- a necessity in this Covid-19 era. Mitali Basak, Third-year PhD scholar, Center for Nanotechnology, IIT Guwahati, and with Dr. Shirsendu Mitra, former PhD scholar at the Department of Chemical Engineering, IIT Guwahati, has also been recognised for an entry to the global Charm Health Innovation Challenge.
The two scholars teamed up to participate in the competition under the category of Student Innovators and submitted an idea of a benchtop digital setup with an algorithm to record initial health screenings like body temperature, pulse rate, eye and tongue analysis of a patient remotely. A situation like COVID-19 demands human interactions to be as minimal as possible. In view of this, the current innovation serves as a potential tool for healthcare management remotely, taking care of physical as well as social distancing norms.

The device developed by the scholars is capable of remotely doing primary health check-ups. Further, a robust algorithm along with cloud interfacing is expected to enable the device to store large volumes of health data for future benefit. The prototype is expected to be ready within the next 4 months.

This innovation challenge includes a cash prize of USD 2500 for the top 2 winners. Apart from this, once the winning innovation is fully developed, its commercialisation will be taken forward by the organisers.

Charm Health Innovation Challenge is a Digital Healthcare focused technology competition organised by two California based organisations -- Charm Health and iValley.
