IIT Guwahati Course Admissions 2026: Cutoff, Eligibility, Dates, Selection Criteria

Candidates who have completed Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics as compulsory subjects is the basic eligibility for BDes offered at IIT Guwahati. In order to get admission in IIT Guwahati for BTech course, the student need to provide valid JEE Main score.  Admission to BTech at IIT Guwahati is purely based on the score obtained by the candidates in the entrance exam followed by JoSAA counselling. IIT Guwahati has a seat intake of 33 for MDes, including 13 seats for the General category. The institute reserves 3 seats for the EWS General category and 9 seats for OBC-NCL. The PhD admissions to the Institute Assistantship courses at IIT Guwahati require candidates to appear for the GATE or CEED. 

However, PhD admissions to the other categories of PhD courses at IIT Guwahati are not decided on the basis of the aforementioned entrance exams scores.

The dates for JoSAA counselling 2026 choice filling will be announced once the result of JEE Main 2026 is declared. Candidates can fill choices only during the choice filling period. Also, candidates need to lock their choices before the last date.

Candidates seeking admission in an IIT Guwahati MSc course must have a valid bachelor’s degree issued by a recognised university. Admission to the MSc course is based on merit in IIT JAM followed by CCMN counselling. The seat allotment is carried out based on document verification, seat intake, and category of the students, during the counselling. Moreover, the IIT JAM application process is carried out in online mode.

All the students seeking admission to the Bachelor of Design (BDes) programme offered at IIT Guwahati must apply for UCEED first, and then submit a duly filled application to the institute. Each candidate can attempt UCEED a maximum of two times in consecutive years, and the score of the entrance exam is valid only for one year. To get admission to BDes course offered by IIT Guwahati, candidates must attain the rank as per the category they belong to. IIT Guwahati UCEED cutoff 2025 has been released for the first and the second round for different categories of students in the AII India quota. In the first round, the cutoff rank for the General AI category candidates was 77. During the Round 2 of admission, the UCEED closing rank stood at 81 for B.Des admission.

IIT Guwahati offers courses in UG, PG and PhD level for the durations varying from 2 years to 4 years in full-time mode. The Institute offers these courses based on entrance. In addition to this, candidates must secure a valid scores in accepted entrance exams such as JEE Main/ JEE Advanced/ GATE or equivalent for the final admission to any level of course. Furthermore, the Institute offers these course with a total tuition fees varying from INR 95K to INR 20 Lakh.  

IIT Guwahati admissions are done through national-level tests conducted by various authorities for the admission to UG, PG, and PhD level courses. Admission criteria to IIT Guwahati is primarily entrance based and is different for all UG and PG programmes. To get into UG programmes, the eligibility criteria is the minimum aggregate in Class 12 or equivalent, along with entrance exams. However, the eligibility criteria to get into PG programmes is graduation in any discipline with the required minimum aggregate (this may vary from course to course), along with entrance exams for a few courses.

IIT Guwahati offers a full-time BTech programme in 12 specialisations, namely Biosciences & Bioengineering, Data Science & Artificial Intelligence, Chemical Engineering, Chemical Science & Technology, Computer Science & Engineering, Civil Engineering, Electronics & Electrical Engineering, Electronics & Communication Engineering, Mathematics & Computing, Mechanical Engineering, Energy Engineering and Engineering Physics.

The selection of candidates for the MDes programme offered at IIT Guwahati is based on the Common Entrance Examination for Design (CEED) conducted as a part of the central admission procedure. In addition to this, MDes aspirants need to clear the Design Aptitude Test (conducted at DoD, ITG for shortlisted candidates based on CEED) followed by a personal interview and portfolio evaluation. Master’s degree in a relevant discipline with a minimum of 60% to 70% aggregate or 6.0 to 7.0 CPI is the basic eligibility for the PhD programme offered at IIT Guwahati. Candidates with a four-year bachelor’s degree/ equivalent qualification with a minimum of 70% aggregate or 7.0 CPI can also apply. The aspirants must also hold the relevant documents as a proof of eligibility.
