IIT Guwahati to Conduct GATE 2026 Exam Today for CE, EE, ME and Three Other Papers
GATE 2026 CE, EE, and ME exam today: IIT Guwahati will conduct the GATE 2026 CE, EE, and ME paper today (Feb 14). The Graduate Aptitude Test in Engineering will be held in two shifts. Students appearing for GATE exam 2026 can check the guidelines and dress code below.Β
Apart from these papers, PE is held in forenoon session and BM and MT will be held in afternoon session.
While in the second shift, GATE will be conducted for mechanical engineering (ME). The timings are 2:30 pm to 5:30 pm. Candidates appearing for GATE 2026 exam today, must follow all guidelines, including dress code, GATE 2026 exam hall instructions, and the list of prohibited items at the centre.Β

GATE 2026 Reporting Time
Students who are attending GATE paper today, must report to the exam centre at least 90 minutes before the test time, for biometric authentication and document verification process. No late entry will be accepted under any circumstances.Β
Documents required at the GATE 2026 Exam Centre
Candidates must carry the following documents and items to the centre -
- GATE 2026 admit card
- Valid ID proof
- Transparent water bottle
- Pen or pencil for rough work
Note: A digital copy of the GATE hall ticket will not be accepted.
GATE Exam Dress Code 2026
The IIT conducting authorities does not issue any dress code guidelines to students. However, it is advisable to wear something comfortable and loose. Avoid wearing any metal embellishment items, such as belts, earnings, jewellery to the centre.
Prohibited Items to the GATE Exam Centre
The authorities have strictly stated that following items are allowed inside the GATE exam hall -
- Any electronic gadgets like mobile phones, digital watches, physical calculators, pagers, bluetooth devices, etc.Β
- Any personal items, such as handbags, jewellery, etc.
- Text materials, such as notebooks, study materials, etc.Β
- Packed food items, such as snacks, chocolates, etc.Β
Commonly asked questions
The GATE 2026 paper code of XE stands for Engineering Sciences, XH stands for Humanities and Social Science, and XL stands for Life Sciences.
For GATE Paper "XE"
- General aptitude carries a total of 15 marks
- Engineering mathematics contains 11 questions of 15 marks
- Sectional option papers (from B to I) - contains 22 questions carries a total of 35 marks
For GATE Paper "XH"
- General aptitude section carries 15 marks
- Section B1 (Reasoning and Comprehension) carries 16 questions of 25 marks.
- Option section (from C1 to C6) - contains 39 questions of 60 marks.
For GATE Paper "XL"
- The general aptitude section carries 15 marks.
- Chemistry (compulsory) section contains 17 questions of 25 marks.
- Optional section (Q through U) - contains 19 questions of 30 marks.
Students can check GATE exam dates on IIT GATE Guwahati website- gate2026.iitg.ac.in. The dates have been released for GATE admit card, branch-papers, and results. Dates for answer key and counselling will be made available soon.
GATE Computer Science (CSE) exam was conducted on February 8 in two sessions. Exam shift timings can be checked below -
