In view of the rising COVID-19 cases, the institute has restricted entry of outsiders, including guardians, into its campus. 

As per a report published in The Times of India, in view of the rising COVID-19 cases, the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Patna has ordered suspension of offline classes till further notice. However, the institute notified that classes will continue to be held in the online mode. IIT Patna public relations officer Rajendra Taramanik said at least 20 students and teachers of the institute were found infected with COVID.  

He said while the infected students had been shifted to a separate block of the hostel to prevent further spread of the virus, teachers had been asked to undergo home isolation. 

โ€œNone of the infected students or teachers needed hospitalisation. However, the administration of the institute is monitoring the health of the infected. All of them are recovering well,โ€ Taramanik said. In view of Covid outbreak, the institute has restricted entry of outsiders, including guardians, into its campus. Taramanik said sanitisation in hostels, teachersโ€™ quarters and other buildings was in progress. โ€œEven small gatherings have been banned for the time being,โ€ he said. 

Meanwhile, IIT Kharagpur has closed its laboratories and offices till January 23 after the institute reported a sharp spike in COVID casesSince January 1, over 300 persons, including students, faculty members and staff, have tested positive for COVID on the IIT-Kharagpur campus.
