Prof Suman Chakraborty has been awarded for his pioneering work in elucidating the interaction of fluid mechanics, interfacial phenomena, and electromechanics at the micro and nanoscale. 

Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) Kharagpur’s Professor Suman Chakraborty has been awarded the Infosys Prize 2022 for his contribution in the fields of engineering and computer science, Times Now reported. 

Chakraborty was rewarded as his work helped advance healthcare in resource limited settings. A statement issued by Infosys read, “The Infosys Prize 2022 in Engineering and Computer Science is awarded to Prof Suman Chakraborty for his pioneering work in elucidating the interaction of fluid mechanics, interfacial phenomena, and electromechanics at the micro and nanoscale. Using this understanding, he has helped to advance healthcare in resource-limited settings through the invention of novel low-cost medical devices for sensing, diagnostics and therapeutics.” 

Chakraborty thanked his parents and all teachers who have helped in throughout his life. He thanked his teachers from St Lawerence High School in Kolkata, Jadavpur University, Kolkata and Indian Institute of Science, IISc Bangalore. Starting from younger days, (I thank) the extreme sacrifice of my parents, then my teachers at St Lawrence High School, Kolkata, the teachers of Jadavpur University, Kolkata, my teachers at @iiscbangalore, and of course a large number of students,” the professor said.  

He also gave a special mention to his students at IIT Kharagpur. Chakraborty is the Dean of Research and Development and Professor at the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Kharagpur. As per the official website, the Infosys Prize is awarded by the Infosys Science Foundation, a not-for-profit trust established in 2009. The prize is given to those who elevate the prestige of science and research in India and inspire young Indians to do the same.
